When we had one D-Cell and one light bulb in our circuit, the bulb lights fairly brightly:
But if we add another light bulb with our one D-Cell, each bulb lights more dimly:
Our challenge was to see if we could arrange the components in our circuit to make the light bulbs light as brightly as they had with just one bulb in the circuit. After a few hints, students came up with some ideas!
In the end, we discovered the difference between a series circuit:
and a parallel circuit:

sound through speakers is electrical energy. the bulb would glow with the beat of the music if we hook it up in parallel to a speaker. Lets give it a try.
